About Chef Camille

Third-generation Angeleno. Black, Mexican, and Italian, and yes, all of that shows up on the plate. I love In-N-Out just as much as I love caviar, I am navigating anaphylactic allergies and food restrictions, and I still make the most flavorful food in the room. That is not a flex! That is just what happens when you respect tradition enough to know how to bend it.

I have been feeding people professionally for nearly two decades, film sets, cultural dinners, corporate events, private kitchens, and some rooms that genuinely changed my life. I have catered Vogue World Hollywood and NBA All-Star Weekend! I won the King's Hawaiian Pacific Rim Challenge! I have cooked at a platform by the James Beard Foundation, Chef Andrew Zimmern named me his Chef's Pick, and Chef Carla Hall has called me a conduit. I am a Specialty Food Association maker and a USC invited speaker on diaspora flavors and food storytelling, and I am just getting started.

I did not grow up wanting to be a chef. I went to music school! Food found me the way the best things usually do, sideways and exactly on time. What I did grow up with was a grandmother who knew every vendor in the produce store by name, a grandfather who graded meat for a living and kept the workbook to prove it, a father who grew up on a cattle ranch, and a kitchen that always smelled like something worth coming home to. That is my culinary education. The credentials came later. The foundation? That was always them.

Mediterranean Soul is how I cook. It is the belief that flavor starts long before the stove, that the food traditions of the world are not separate from each other. They are in constant, beautiful conversation. It is also the name of my book series, beginning with Mediterranean Soul: Flavor Starts Here, a pantry guide and cultural roadmap for anyone who has ever stood in a grocery store feeling overwhelmed and wished someone they trusted would just show them how. You deserved better information sooner. This is that!
